Headstone and Memorial FAQs

When looking to commission a personalized headstone or marker for the first time it can be a little overwhelming.  Not only can it be difficult to know where to begin with design, inscriptions and color choices but there’s often guidelines set by cemeteries and certain procedures you may not be familiar with.

To help, we have put together some of the most common questions we get asked about headstones and custom markers.  If you have any further questions however, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us:

What color can I have?

We have stones available in a range of 26 colors including: reds, mahogony, grey, blue and various shades of black.  See our full list of colors available.

What shapes and sizes are available?

We can craft memorials in a wide range of styles from small flat markers up to double and family sized memorials.  Past commissions have included heart, circular, star and abstract stone shaped memorials.

Please note that cemeteries have their own guidelines as to what shapes and sizes are allowed.

Can I have a picture added?

Yes, pictures are an increasingly popular option that we can add for you.

What stone should I use?

This is entirely up to you.  Most cemeteries have restrictions on the type of stone they allow – usually granite and/or marble.  We are happy to discuss the pros and cons of each with you so you can make an informed decision.  There’s also plenty of information online and on our blog about the differences between granite, marble and bronze stone.

What is the typical cost?

The cost of a custom memorial or marker can vary significantly depending on the specification.  There are numerous variables at play: size, shape, choice of stone, lettering, inscriptions and embellishments.

To get an idea of cost you are best to discuss any ideas with our memorialists so that we can provide you with a guide price.

How long will it take to deliver?

Typically once the final design has been approved memorials are completed within 4-6 weeks; this assumes we also have the stone in stock.  If a stone needs to be ordered in it can take much longer.

Who should I contact about the memorial’s foundation?

If the cemetery is local we should be able to help you with this.  Sometimes cemeteries like to manage the setting of the foundation themselves, either way we will manage this process on your behalf. No need to contact anyone else.
